Jo & Jon • Engagement Shoot

Last week, Jo & Jon took me up to the crag just behind their house in deepest Huby in Yorkshire for their pre-wedding engagement shoot. A pretty windy day gave me a bit of a challenge to find some shelter, and first on the cards was a shot right at the top with a view of their house in the distance (they’ll know which one I hope). The crag was beautiful and had an amazing 360 degree view of the area which made me think I need to get out of my office a bit more. Carved into the rocks was graffiti dating back to the 1800s (well that’s what it said, and I didn’t have the time or my carbon-dating kit to test it).

They’re getting married in the middle of July and chose their wedding venue purely on the basis of how good the food is – my kind of people! They’re having it at The Star Inn at Harome, which is a Michelin stared gastropub. I was pretty keen to get my order in early, and fortunately I don’t have to take my normal packed-lunch. Anyway, less about food and more about photos – here are a few of my favourites from the 40 or so shots we got on the day.

Lucy & Richard • Engagement Shoot • Greenwich Park, London

Lucy & Richard’s pre-wedding shoot took place when I was down in London a couple of weeks ago. Lucy decided Greenwich Park would be a good place to go, and it definitely came up with the goods. I was a bit worried about this one as about a month ago, Rich broke his ankle so was in a David Beckham-esque style cast until a day before the shoot. He turned up limping on a crutch and if you’ve been to Greenwich before, you’ll know it’s not ideal for grooms-to-be limping on crutches. Luckily he managed just fine, and hopefully the pictures were worth the hobble. A bit nervous as most couple are to begin with, by the end of the shoot I wasn’t giving any direction at all, and it was only the car parking meter and a need for coffee that made us head back.

Their wedding is at the end of June in the Yorkshire Dales, at Linton Church and The Devonshire Arms so check back here for the big day.

Kim & Peter • Pre-Wedding Shoot

I can’t wait to photograph Kim & Peter’s wedding at Hey Green. This couple are ace and we had a lot of fun (although they made me walk a long way). These shots were taken at Digley Reservoir just outside of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. It’s always a bit of a challenge, shooting in a place without having visited it before, but Kim & Peter told me that this place would be great (that and the fact it was 2 minutes from Kim’s parent’s house).

Jo + Theo • Pre-Wedding Shoot • Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol

This weekend I had the amazing pleasure of travelling to Bristol to shoot not only Jo + Theo’s pre-wedding pictures on Friday, but then their actual wedding on the Saturday. I normally like to photograph the pre-wedding shots several weeks before the wedding, but Theo works in Italy a lot (he proposed to Jo in Rome!), so it was difficult to all sync our diaries. The wedding pictures will be available to look at in a couple of weeks, but first of all here are a few of my favourites from Friday. We ventured out to The Clifton Suspension bridge in Bristol, where in the late afternoon sun, we hit some perfect light and spent 40 minutes braving the wind to get these shots.

Fun in the snow • Natasha & Alastair • Pre-Wedding Shoot

This weekend I had the great (freezing-cold) pleasure of photographing Natasha & Alastair’s pre-wedding photos at Oakwell Hall, near Birstall in Leeds. It was a close call with the weather, but after waking up to a beautiful sun filled sky, I couldn’t have asked for better light (even the Californians don’t have it this good). We all had plenty of fun trying not to slip over and they got into the swing of things really quickly.

It wasn’t long before we got bored of couply shots and after jumping the gate to get into the field, I only had to say the phrase snow fight, and they were off. I shouldn’t have asked . . .

They’re getting married in Malmaison in the centre of Leeds early next year, and I can’t wait. Malmaison’s going to produce some really beautiful shots.

Ellie & Neal • Pre-Wedding Shoot

This weekend, I’m shooting Ellie & Neal’s wedding in York at the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall. This was their pre-wedding shoot form a few weeks back at Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds.

Anna & James • Pre-Wedding Shoot

On Sunday I met up with Anna & James at Golden Acre Park in Otley, for their pre-wedding shoot. As always, they were a little bit nervous to begin with, but soon got into the mood, and now after seeing the pictures are completely comfortable and happy about how the photography will be on the big day; the perfect outcome for a pre-wed shoot; get them both a cracking mantle-piece photo, and to settle the nerves.[svgallery name="AnnaJames PreWed"]
