Same great value prices but with an easier to understand structure and a refreshed advice section.  If you’re an actor/singer/dancer/comedian/lion-tamer, struggling to get your act together for the new year, a fresh headshot is a huge step in the right direction to getting your game on.  Show them you mean business!  The shoot is relaxed and once you’ve spent the first 10 minutes getting over your nerves (yup, even the seasoned ones still need to get warmed up) then you’ll wonder why you ever put it off.

Mancini & The Hitmen • Band Photoshoot

Here are the final pictures from the latest photoshoot with Mancini & The Hitmen, an amazing function band that play the best soul music you’ll ever hear. If you’re looking for a band to rock your wedding with the sounds of Aretha, Marvin and Stevie then get in touch as you definitely wont be disappointed. We shot these in The Adelphi pub in South Leeds using the upstairs room, a few big comfy seats, one big softbox (hit the comments if you want detailed geeky info), and a couple of hours later we ended up with a bunch of cool photos to promote them in 2011. Here are a few of my favourites, let me know what you think; good, bad or indifferent.

Get To You Your Digital SLR • Photography Evening Class with 3B Media

Slowed down by shutter speeds? Agonising over apertures? Frustrated with focussing?

Our latest evening class photography workshop is called “Get To Know Your Digital SLR” and is all about learning the very basics of photography.  If you’ve just got your first DSLR, or Santa’s bringing you one for Christmas, then this is the class that will get you on your feet and start shooting with more confidence and more creatively.

We’ll be covering: Aperture, shutter speeds, ISO, composition, lenses, focussing and lots of other tech stuff but without all the tech language.

The evening class is in Leeds and we have 4 dates lined up: 25 January, 1st February, 1st March and 5th April between 6:30 and 9:30pm,which will give you plenty of chance to get out of work and over to see us.

It’s going to be a lot of fun, with myself and another 3B Media pro photographer on board to answer all your questions (even the silly ones) and will make an ideal Christmas gift if you’re struggling for ideas for your wanna-be-photo-junkie partner.  For online booking and all the information you need, head over to our 3B Media website at: http://www.3bmedia.co.uk/index.php/workshops/get-to-know-your-dslr

Wedding Photographer Meets Bespoke Wedding Dress Designer

So last week I made some time to meet up with Linda Davey who owns Dresses at No 9.  I first crossed paths with Linda back in September 2009 when I photographed Nadia & Nick’s wedding when Nadia hired Linda to make her fabulous wedding dress. It’s taken this long for us to get together for a coffee and a chat, even though networking with suppliers and other people in the industry is something I try and do as regularly as I can. Sharing information, notes and ideas is definitely the key to a stronger and happier business. If you’re just starting out as a self-employed sole-trader whether that be a photographer or a wedding dress designer, and you’re feeling alone and nervous, then I’d thoroughly recommend meeting up with as many like-minded people as possible. And share everything.

Anyway, I’m off point. Linda makes beautiful dresses, she’s a lovely person, and will create you something as individual as you and your wedding are. Talk to her, tell her what your dream dress is, and there’s a damn good chance she’ll make it even better than you’d imagined. I’ve been trying to photograph a wedding with her work since September last year when I photographed this image below.  Pretty dresses and beautiful brides make my job easy.

Linda’s been after a fancy new picture of herself for her own website for a while, and after a push from a couple of magazines that want to feature her and her dresses, I tweeted her and said, you grab me some lunch and I’ll shoot your pictures.  After some tasty New York deli sandwiches (that’s attention to detail right there; she’d read my blog on my trip to NYC), cups of tea and lots of talking, we got down to business and had 2 minutes to get the shot before Linda had to go to pick up the kids from school. Here’s the final result:

So if you need a beautifully designed, truly original and bespoke wedding dress that will fit you better than anything you’ll pick up off-the-peg, then give Linda a call.  You won’t regret it.

Music Video by 3B Media • Cities Between Us “Dirty Money”

A few months back 3B Media were approached for some promo snaps by a band calling themselves ‘Cities Between Us‘. After checking out their myspace we arranged to meet them at one of the our fave Leeds haunts, The Reliance for a pint.

We were more than impressed with the sheer energy & enthusiasm coming from these dudes. They told us their story & how they’d come together from Iceland, New Zealand & Canada (hence ‘Cities Between Us’) and were currently rocking out some new tracks in the UK/Canada, whichever kept them busiest. Here they are are: L>R Valdimar, Jo, Josh, Stefan & Nimal

As with all photography, wedding, music or otherwise, if the other side ‘puts in’, the results are all the sweeter. After they’d left, we were buzzing on their enthusiasm and decided to crank things up a bit for them. Instead of just a photoshoot, we were going to make them a music video. This was gonna be Phil’s baby, as we’ve found it easier in such projects to take on roles, so Phil took ‘Herr Director’, I took the reigns on camera operating and lighting and Barns would do the editing.

Meanwhile, in July they began work on their debut album, with star producer Matt Hyde – the grammy award winning engineer who’s worked with Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Bullet for my Valentine & Slipknot – and came back to us with a tasty number called ‘Dirty Money’.

We had a good listen, booked a date, hired a warehouse & some Arri TV lights & settled in for a day’s filming.  We asked aboard the helpful hands of James Lester (an ace tog pal who manned camera B & shot the images in this post) & Hannah Reynolds (James’ art college pal who manned the mac desk & file conversion).

Here’s a view of the warehouse, from the back looking towards us (you can see our macbook pro desk between the left guitar & bass amps)

Above are a few shots James caught of the band in action.

Gearwise: We filmed on Canon DSLRs (2 x 5DmkII’s & a 7D for slow mo footage), a gib (a video crane) & a bunch of Arri TV studio lights & a strobe…

…but really the show was run on CBU power! Seriously: all credit to the band, who rocked solidly for like 7hrs.

We felt for Stefan, the drummer, who was in shreds after givin it beats all day

We left the day we an absolute bucket load of footage and tootled off to Barnaby’s to hand it over for his job of editing . . .

That’s a screen grab of the final track, chopped & laid out in Final Cut Pro.

It was a seriously interested experience & learning curve for us all, not just on the day – playing with lighting, slow mo and cranes etc – but in post production – converting, syncing & chopping the footage – to pump the vid with life & pace.

But we’re totally pleased with the final result. Check it out below, in crispy HD:

If you can’t see the vid for whatever reason, check it out on vimeo here.

Hope you enjoyed watching that as much as we did making it! Massive thanks to Cities Beween Us, who are up in Iceland recording the 2nd leg of the album, for being absolute legends on the day and in general. It wouldn’t look anywhere near this ace if you didn’t put in 100% like you did.

If you’ve a commission for 3B Media, or would like a music vid/documentary, don’t be shy – drop us a line here or on info@3Bmedia.co.uk
